The Well House History

Built in 1890 as the home and office of Dr. Cooper, a local physician, the Well House began as a place of healing—where travelers and community members alike found care and comfort under one roof. The east wing, used for inpatient care, offered rare and compassionate medical support in a time when such services were limited, while the west side was the heart of the Cooper family’s home. From its earliest days, this space has been a sanctuary of both healing and hospitality.

Over generations, the Inn remained grounded in its role as a welcoming refuge—evolving from a physician’s residence to a boarder’s haven, to a cultural and community touchstone for Taylor. Its history is one of care, continuity, and connection—a fitting foundation for our Wellery Farms Programs.

In many ways, this is a return to its roots. By repurposing the space for therapeutic healing today, our program brings the story full circle—transforming a historic site of medical care and hospitality into a modern space for emotional, mental, and spiritual recovery. As the Inn was once a place where travelers found rest and care under Dr. Cooper’s guidance, it now becomes a restorative setting where individuals can rediscover strength, stability, and hope.
